Man ‘critical’ after weekend shooting

New Castle News

State police are investigating a weekend shooting in Union Township which left a New Castle man critically injured.

According to police reports, Russell Lloyd Harris, 34, of 602 E. Long Ave., was shot twice — once in the chest and once in the stomach — while visiting a home at 3078 McClelland Ave. The incident occurred at 10:40 p.m. Saturday.

According to police, Harris was visiting when he was shot outside with an assault-style rifle. Several shots hit the home and another house in the neighborhood.

Harris was taken to Jameson Hospital, police said, then transferred to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, where he is in critical condition.

This morning, hospital officials confirmed his condition.

Police reported they have possible leads on a suspect and expect to file charges later today.
